Whitney's Point - Circa 1852 - 1854

WHITNEY'S POINT/MAY/25/N.Y. Larger Black 35mm CDS; Black 14mm "10" on cover mailed to
                            Benicia, California.  Black 35mm CDS of Benicia and "5"
                            handstamp added and letter then forwarded to Sacramento.
                            The 10 cent was the non prepaid rate for over 3000 miles
                            and the 5 cent added for forwarding was the rate for non
                            prepaid under 3000 miles, per Act of March 3, 1851.
                            The "10" marking from Whitney's Point is unlisted in ASCC.

WHITNEY'S POINT/FEB/16/N.Y. Smaller 30mm CDS Black; "PAID / 3" in 22mm circle.
                            Rate for up to 3000 miles, per Act of March 3, 1855.
                            This act also made compulsory the prepayment of postage.

WHITNEY'S-POINT/JAN/6/N.Y. Larger 35mm CDS Black; "PAID / 3" in 22mm circle.
                           Rate for up to 3000 miles, per Act of March 3, 1855.  This act also made
                           compulsory the prepayment of postage.

WHITNEY'S POINT/APR/23/N.Y. CDS 31mm Black; 3 cent dull red (#26)            

Whitney's Point: 10 Cent Rate to California - Early 1860's

WHITNEY'S POINT/JUN/11/N.Y. Black 30mm CDS; 10 cent green Type V (#35) pays the
                            1/2 ounce rate from any point east of the Rockies to any
                            State or Territory on the Pacific. This rate was in effect
                            from February 27, 1861 until June 30, 1863 after which the
                            rate for all parts of the United States dropped to 3 cents.
