The "V" Handstamp Varieties

Solid Red 25mm - 1847

BINGHAMTON/AUG/12/N.Y. 30mm Red CDS; "B" away from "N"; Solid red 25mm "V".  This is a previously
                       unreported solid "V" stampless marking from Binghamton.  This is also the
                       earliest reported usage of any type of "V" marking from Binghamton,
                       superceding the striped "V" shown below by nearly a month.
                       Rate for under 300 miles, per Act of March 3, 1845.

Red 25 mm With Vertical Stripes - 1847

BINGHAMTON/SEP/11/N.Y. 31mm Red CDS; "B" close to "N"; Red 25mm V, with vertical stripes;
                       Earliest known use for this type "V".  Red 21 x 3 1/2mm S/L PAID.
                       Rate for under 300 miles, per Act of March 3, 1845.

Red 25mm With Curved Stripes - 1847

BINGHAMTON/DEC/23/N.Y. 31mm Red CDS; "B" close to "N"; Red 25mm "V", with curved stripes;
                       Earliest known use for this type "V".  Red 21 x 3 1/2mm S/L PAID.
                       Rate for under 300 miles, per Act of March 3, 1845.

Solid Red 15mm - 1848

BINGHAMTON/JUL/21/N.Y. 31mm Red CDS; "B" close to "N"; Solid red 15mm "V"; Red 21x3mm "PAID".
                       This is a previously unreported solid "V" stampless marking from Binghamton.  Based on the reported
                       known dates of usage of this type CDS and PAID marking, the year of use can be deduced to be 1848.
                       Rate for under 300 miles, per Act of March 3, 1845.
