Evolution of the "Year on Top" CDS

Union - 1900

UNION/1900/FEB/14/8AM/N.Y. 28mm black CDS, year on top. Black quartered
                           circle killer ties one cent green Bureau issue of
                           1898 (#279) which paid the one cent per ounce non- 
                           carrier local letter rate effective July 1, 1885.

Union - 1902

UNION/1902/MAY/22/8AM/N.Y. 28mm black CDS, year on top. Worn black quartered
                           circle killer ties two cent red Type III Bureau 
                           issue of 1898 (#279B) which paid the two cent per  
                           ounce first class letter rate effective July 1, 1885.
   
   

Sometime between 1902 and 1906 the killer was changed to a duplex and the dial size increased from 28mm to 29mm, resulting in a larger space between the town and the year.

Union - 1906

UNION/1906/SEP/19/7 PM/N.Y. 29mm black CDS, year on top, larger space between 
                            town and year. Black duplex killer ties one cent green 
                            Franklin (#300) which paid the one cent first class 
                            post card rate effective July 1, 1898.

Union - 1909

UNION/1909/???/15/7PM/N.Y. 29mm black CDS, year on top, larger space between 
                           town and year. Black duplex killer ties one cent green 
                           Franklin booklet single (#331a) which paid the one cent
                           first class post card rate effective July 1, 1898.

Union - 1913

UNION/1913/APR/9/2PM/N.Y. 29mm black CDS, year on top, larger space between 
                          town and year. Black duplex killer ties one cent green 
                          Washingtonbooklet single (#405b) which paid the one cent
                          first class post card rate effective July 1, 1898.
