Broome County, New York was formed from Tioga County on March 28, 1806. Throughout its history, there have been 159 physical post offices in Broome County, although if spelling differences are counted, there are 176 total known. It is a challenge to collect some of these post offices, because some were in existance for very short periods of time and surviving covers from these offices are scarce. A good example is Hazardville, NY which existed only from January 28 to March 11 in 1859. Not only is it a goal to collect each town, but for each town there are many different markings and rate usages to collect.
