                       Red 17 x 4mm S/L PAID.
                       Rate for under 300 miles, per Act of March 3, 1845.

Binghamton - 1852

BINGHAMTON/FEB/30/Mar/1/N.Y. 31mm Black CDS; "B" close to "N"; Black thin stem, heavy top 5.
                             1852 was a Leap Year.  Date slug reads FEB/30. Postmaster noted the error 
                             and wrote over "FEB" with "Mar" and crossed out "30" and wrote "1".
                             There is evidence of a stamp being removed which had the "5" underneath.
                             Contents dated 1852. This is a new earliest date for this Type (24) "5". 
                             Rate for non prepaid letter under 3000 miles, per Act of March 3, 1851.

                      Ornate lady's envelope sent to Schuyler Lake, Otsego County, NY.
                      Rate for non prepaid letter under 3000 miles, per Act of March 3, 1851.

Binghamton - 1850's

BINGHAMTON/NOV/18/N.Y. Black 31mm CDS; "B" close to "N"; Black PAID/3 in 20mm circle.  Forwarded from
                       Buffalo on NOV 21 to Syracuse and back to Buffalo on NOV 29.  3 cents indicates the
                       pre-paid rate. The not pre-paid forwarding was 5 cents each time thus 10 cents was 
                       due at Buffalo, per the Act of March 3, 1851.
